After a very strange year which has seen a lot of our learners cooped up indoors, we ran a very interesting, action packed and exciting summer school.
During the first week of Summer holiday staff members and learners spend the week outdoors participating in activities such as BBQing, raft building, archery, building campfires and playing foot golf. In addition to the outdoor events and so as to shelter from the English weather, we also ran some indoor sporting activiities such as table tennis, snooker tournaments and card games which all pupils thoroughly enjoyed especially when they won especially when beating staff. It allowed learners and staff from different units to build positive relationships outside of a school environment and for all learners to learn some new skills and build on skills they already had.
There were a few days which resembled a true British summer however that did not dampen our spirits. It is safe to say that our learners raft building skills outshone the recent staff team building event. It was nice to see all learners and staff survive the week despite learners taking the lead role cooking breakfast and lunch for all to enjoy.
Everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed the summer school and would definitely like to attend any further events.
The grant we received was £4477.50. It was spent as per table below:
