The School Day & Meals

The school day

Our school day begins at 8:45am. Registration gives learners time to settle, have breakfast if they wish, and prepare for learning. The day ends with reflection, giving learners and staff an opportunity to recognise progress and plan any support needed for the following day.

The standard school day ends at 2:30pm Monday to Thursday and 2:10pm on Friday. This is 28 hours and 25 minutes across a typical week, including breaks. Some learners may follow an individual timetable agreed with their parent or carer and the school.

Time Monday to Thursday
8:45am–9:15am Registration and preparation for learning
9:15am–10:00am Lesson 1
10:00am–10:45am Lesson 2

Friday follows an adjusted timetable to accommodate the 2:10pm finish.

School meals

Every learner at The Kassia Academy is offered a school lunch free of charge, regardless of whether they meet the eligibility criteria for statutory free school meals. Breakfast is also available at the start of the day, and we offer a snack at break time.

We have our own school chef, who prepares food freshly on site. Our menu offers a variety of meals and is planned in line with the school food standards. We want mealtimes to be welcoming and to give learners the opportunity to enjoy food, develop healthy habits and return to learning ready for the afternoon.

Learners help us improve our food offer. We gather their views through pupil voice activities and food surveys, consider their suggestions when reviewing menus, and explain changes where we can.

Allergies and dietary needs

Please tell the school about any food allergy, intolerance, medical dietary requirement or other dietary need, including any changes during the year. We will discuss your child’s needs with you and the catering team so that appropriate arrangements can be agreed. Please contact the school before your child starts if they will need a specially prepared meal.

If your child meets the criteria for statutory free school meals, please still let us know, even though we provide lunch free of charge to all learners. Recording eligibility helps us maintain accurate information about the support available to pupils.

For questions about meals or your child’s timetable, please contact the school office on 01925 452010 or at admin@tkas.org.uk
